Gravity Quiet
In the past few years, the Ambient and New Age genres have been flooded with artists whose music is mostly filled with over-utilized loops and often repeated keyboard factory pads. It is unique to find an Ambient or New Age artist who composes instrumental songs with depth and originality in mind. Gravity Quiet was created and designed specifically to not drown the listener in meditative pabulum. Much too often, the "Ambient" moniker features tracks that slowly lull the listener to unrecognized boredom with sonic wall paper. Gravity Quiet's musical selections are evolving, adventurous and ever expanding. Although released in the New Age / Ambient arena, Gravity Quiet is not intended to be exclusive to that genre. The musical selections are thick with New Age and Soundtrack flavoring. Instead of following the well traveled computer software road, Gravity Quiet is recorded with actual Keyboard and Sound Module hardware. Instead of arrangements that assail the listener with slow pulsing waves of yawn, Gravity Quiet creates and supplies the audio viewer with Hauntingly complex, Ambient Sounddreams. Imaginative works based not on the minimal standard, but on the concept of deep and intense instrumentals with rich textures and mind tempting Soundscapes. A menu of strong presence, but with simple ethereal grace when required. When Soft, it is never weak. When Strong, it is never overpowering. Gravity Quiet, a magical blend of Ambient, New Age and Soundscape. Music not limited to any tonal state of mind.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has allowed a type of exposure unheard of just ten years ago. More artists are given a chance to let the public and the world hear their music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if the priorities of the major label were in the right place. Too often the bottom line has blinded the executives to actual creativity or talent.
Band History:
Gravity Quiet is an inspired conceptual side project of Jazz/New Age artist Michael Lee Thomas. Michael also is the artist behind Thrill Element, a Soundscape project, well known in the New Age/Ambient genre and Tom Slayton Effect, a electro-organic project quickly gaining notice in the New Age/ Acoustic arena. Gravity Quiet will not only reflect the Soundscape composing talents of Michael, but will feature an adventurous path all it's own. Calling the style, "Thought Breathing Music", Gravity Quiet will not follow the traditional direction set by most Ambient/Soundscape projects, but will be adventurous and conceptual in nature with a storyline tied to each composition. The project made it's debut in September 2006 on Soundclick.com. The debut CD, 'Climbing Through A Fall', was released on-line in Fall 2006, the second CD 'Under The Tree Of Secrets' was released on-line Spring 2007, and the third disc 'Storms In Low Orbit' will debut on-line in Fall 2008. A fourth CD 'Winds From The Coast Of October' is slated for a Fall 2009, release. Original artwork by Whit White, who does the covers and art for Michael Lee Thomas and Thrill Element, will be featured on each release. Michael is fully dedicated to the development and growth of this new venture. Enjoy the launch of Gravity Quiet, "A New Taste Of Soundscape Ambience."
