Gavin Salkeld scores soundtrack music for independent, low budget and student films. When he isn't composing film music, he composes ambient electronic soundscapes, and releases his own albums -- both film and non-film works -- on his independent label, Starchild Music.
A variety of music from his film scores will be posted here for your enjoyment. For Gavin's non-film music, go to www.garageband.com/artist/ambientgav

Why this name?
It's my name :)
Do you play live?
All my music is composed on a PC, so I don't play live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well MP3 sharing has brought about a few lawsuits against illegal filesharers but it's also brought the price of CDs down. So I guess that's justice on both parts.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but I dont think that's going to happen!
Your influences?
A lot of things influence me. For the main part it's personal experiences; periods in my life that inspire me. But I can hear a sample on a TV advert for example, and it can make me sit down and compose something just from hearing that.
I think Cliff Martinez's film score work has had an influence on me somewhat, but I've always liked ambient music. When I hear certain sounds, it conjures up images of my childhood. I'm forever trying to make my own music that can have that same effect, that moves me in the same way.

Favorite spot?
Probably The Bench. People who know me will know where it is :)
