Welcome to The Village

Freq. Magnet
(prounonced "freak magnet", not "frequency") is a solo side-project by one of the members of the anonymous duo known as

Austere
(the other half records and releases albums as "
The Mystifying Oracle
".)

The main focus is to create musick using nothing but guitar (acoustic and electric, standard and bass), with a bevy of effects, to try and forge new ground in the genre of "psybient", a term coined by The Mystifying Oracle to describe a new style of sound meant as an alternative to the oft-predictable and overly typecast "ambient" genre.

Working with these ideas in mind, the results are a blend best described as "shoegazing psychedelic ambient", pushing new boundaries by attempting to bring elements of various types of psychedelic musicks (ambient, rock, psy-trance, chanting, etc.) together to create something that will create its own niche in contrast to most all-instrumental and ambient musick.

Freq. Magnet's release are in the vein of and inspired by the works of such amazing bands as Anomalous Disturbances (Terrry O'Brien), Labradford, Bowery Electric, Stars of the Lid, and the ever-wonderful Windy & Carl.

Why this name?
Being a freak magnet in real life, it was fairly obvious.
Do you play live?
Live shows are very rare, always local and usually at private parties and events, never at clubs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We know that is definitely will completely change the musick industry, but if we had any idea how that's going to happen, we'd be investing money in it, but we're smart enough to know it will be random chaos while the transition happens.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Absolutely. We are pleased that Hypnos has decided to distribute our releases.
Your influences?
Anomalous Disturbances (Terrry O'Brien), Labradford, Bowery Electric, Stars of the Lid, and the ever-wonderful Windy & Carl.
Favorite spot?
Portland, Oregon.
Equipment used:
One Fender Squire guitar, a very beat-up Fender bass, a Boomerang looper/phrase sampler, and lots and lots of guitar pedals and effects kit. And of course, Space Echo.
