Era Nocturna is a "gothtronica" project based out of Massachusetts. It was formed by Daevina Noctem in the winter of 2000 and had a short span of actually being a four piece band until two of the four left and the remaining two whittled down to one. Now Era Nocturna is comprised of singer, composer and engineer Daevina Noctem, a fleet of computers (some borrowed, some owned), various microphones and temper tantrums that lead to some interesting sounds.
Why this name?
Era Nocturna means "dark age" in Latin (to the best of my knowledge, though there has been some debate on that). It was chosen when the original name [Bitter Blue] was challenged by a cover band in New Jersey. However, Era Nocturna fits what this music is much better than the old one. Admittedly, it sounds a bit too epic for what I do... but.. such is life. I tend to over do things from time to time. I like drama in art.
Do you play live?
Era Nocturna does not perform live at this time. Is it possible? Perhaps.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Depending on who looks at it... it has either ruined or enhanced the industry. On one token it has given every artist an equal opportunity to be heard and potentially be known the world over by a certain scene of people BUT it has made it that much more difficult for artists to be supported because most listeners opt to steal rather than support their favorite artists these days. It's a double edged sword.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
The majors can't afford to sign talent these days because of the above stated issue.
Band History:
How much time do you have? Really... the project is almost 10 years old... it'd take an age to tell that tale.
Your influences?
Who: Mesh, Nine Inch Nails, Garbage, Skinny Puppy, Collide, old Ministry. What: Life. All in all I'm into a lot of different types of music but my crowning influence is gothic themed music in general. I love it, I gravitate towards it and it's what Era Nocturna ends up sounding like.
Favorite spot?
Bookstores.
Equipment used:
A G4 power Mac, two Gateway laptops, a Dell dimension desktop (sometimes), Fruity Loops Pro 6, Sonar, an audio technica atr20 mic, Logitech USB mic, and a lot of audio duct tape.
Anything else...?
Good question.. Do you know the air speed velocity of an unladen Swallow?
