here's some pice from the latest show...
There are many candidates in the game casting their name in the ballot box, but few are prepared to claim that top spot. But this isn’t for the Presidential election, this is for the leader of West Coast Rap and its time for a new face in the White House of Hip Hop and his name is De Andre Harvey, Better known as El Prez. The new Commander in Chief of the streets is here to show America that West Coast Hip Hop consists of more than gangbanging, 64’s,and riding down Crenshaw Boulevard on Sundays. Born and raised in LA since 1980 El Prez has experienced everything from the birth of the 92’ riots to growing up with mixed heritage in South Central LA. But being exposed to Hip Hop at an early age thru artists like LL Cool J and Run-DMC encouraged El Prez to pursue a career in rap by time he graduated from Westchester High School in 1998.It was at Cal State Northridge that Prez started honing his talent at open mics and ciphers around campus. But only after hooking up with fellow students Tony Costa and Renard Beavers and forming the group, Tha VATICAN, did Prez realize that he could succeed in this industry. They released an album independently in 2000 that sold out in the San Fernando Valley and other areas of Los Angeles but broke up due to creative differences. Now on his own, El Prez released a solo album called “Getting Greedy in the West” and sold almost 500 copies in the valley itself out of his backpack. Now after taking a journey thru the ups and downs of the industry, El Prez is ready to let the cat out of the bag with the next BIG thing on the West Coast with the release of his solo album “Read My Lips” on Montaj Music and the debut of his group the EMPIRE with partners-in-rhyme Cyphakon and Tony Costa.
When listening to Prez’s debut a lot of artists come to mind, but one artist cannot fully describe this rappers perspective on society and life. Even when asking the Head of State himself which artist his style resembles he is hesitant in giving one specific answer. Rather he says, “I am giving people a slice of life in LA that you cant see on Boyz n’ Da Hood and Menace II Society”. Better yet he says that he is bringing that everyman’s outlook back to rap that was pioneered by artists like A Tribe Called Quest and the Pharcyde in the early 90’s.With witty lyricism and knockout punch lines El Prez is truly ushering in a new Administration of West Coast Rap to take back the streets in the new millennium.
From selling two albums out of his backpack to being the first unsigned artist to hold a concert at Cal State Northridge, El Prez has already accomplished a significant amount of goals in his short career. Besides being on the soundtrack to the independent film “Compton Xmas Treez” with a song called “The Grinch”, El Prez has performed at almost every club in Los Angeles and Hollywood, UCLA’s Battle of the Bands, and even a Rave in front of 5,000 people. At anytime you can also hear El Prez on the radio doing drops for 100.3 Da Beat and Power 106, so this politician never stops campaigning.
Throughout the years Politicians have been known to make promises they never intend to keep. But El Prez plans to make good on every one he has made, and that includes letting America know that Los Angeles Hip Hop is more than Gangbangin’ and Ballin’ out of control. Because in his own words, “The average person in LA doesn’t roll an Escalade on spinners and C-walk down the street.” El Prez is telling the industry to “Read My Lips” and find out what Los Angeles is really like. So run to the polls and cast your vote for the Prez.
