Performing on a wide variety of period instruments, Dorian Mirth specializes in Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and European Folk genres, and endeavors to both authentically recreate and creatively re-imagine historic music. The band is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is comprised of close friends drawn together by their love of music, movies, history, costuming, and all things Tolkien-related.
Why this name?
"Dorian" is the name of one of the modes, or scales, commonly used in music from the 5th century A.D. through the 1600s.
"Mirth" is from the Old English "myrgth" which means joyousness, festivity, jollity, that which causes merriment!

Do you play live?
Yes! We play local to where we live, except for special "road trips" to such places as Hollywood.
Band History:
A great big long history is on our web site.
Your influences?
A lot of the pieces we put together are influenced by the gigs that we do. Such as Scottish folk songs for the Scottish Festival, arrangements of Harry Potter period-sounding music for a book release party, or J.R.R. Tolkien poetry set to original music for Lord of the Rings. We started out doing weddings so have several pleasing background pieces appropriate for that venue.
Equipment used:
All acoustic all the time and as authentic as we can afford (and if available to purchase on eBay!).
