Do you play live?
Yes, I do perform live all around. I've performed in Japan, Hawaii, and all around Los Angeles.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
More grounds to reach people. Practically everyone has a computer and they are always listening to music online, so, the internet is a PERFECT opportunity to be heard!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm not ruling anything out because there is always room for negotiation (in my eyes). If the major label was offering a good enough deal to take, then I will, but if not,...then I won't.
Band History:
Brooke Taylor, born & raised in Culver City, CA., this Japanese Hawaiian American girl was constantly surrounded by music. She first began playing piano at age five, by ear, and then later picked up her love for singing. It was at the age of thirteen when she got more serious about her vocal talent. Winning first and second places in school talent shows, principal roles in musicals and graduation entertainment, this built up her confidence and experience for performance. At age sixteen, she cut her first demo and started singing in her father and uncles bands. Brooke's big break didn't come until she ran into Mr. Steve Harvey at Santa Monica College. 100.3fm The Beat radio station had announced that Mr. Steve Harvey would be at Santa Monica College looking for singers. She had to audition for "The Other Idol". Arriving to the jam-packed Santa Monica College cafeteria, she stepped up to the microphone to give her name. Mr. Steve Harvey asked Brooke "So, what song will you be singing?" Brooke Taylor replied "Chain of Fools by Aretha". Turning towards the audience with the microphone in hand, she started singing a cappella. The audience started clapping with her and singing. Then on the last note, Brooke began bowing and the audience gave her a standing ovation. Mr. Steve Harvey and The Angels were stunned. Sheryl Lee Ralph had heard Brooke singing earlier that she wanted to meet her. Mr. Steve Harvey had her close her eyes and brought Brooke Taylor back out to meet her. Sheryl Lee Ralph was stunned. Brooke was then invited to open up for the annual Sheryl Lee Ralph Aids Benefit Concert called "Divas Simply Singing". From then on, Brooke performed at showcases with Mr. Steve Harvey, and other Los Angeles venues trying to be heard. Another radio opportunity came up with DJ Felli Fel of Power 106fm. A competition called "Soul Call". Singers call in to compete and the person who wins that whole week gets to sing live on the air for a chance to hold the title of "Soul Call Champion". Winning the whole week, Brooke performed in studio on the air live with DJ Felli Fel, but returned home title-less, ready for the next competition. That opportunity arose when Big Boy's Neighborhood was seeking a "Neighborhood Idol". Eager once again, Brooke went out to each remote to compete and get into the studio with Mr. Big Boy. Making it to the finals, she performed for a panel of celebrity judges, receiving high marks making her the "Neighborhood Idol". Not only did she hold this title, but also she was invited to open up for a major recording artist at the next backstage breakfast. Big Boy has a segment on his show called "Phone Tap" where he calls up random victims pulling a huge phone prank on them. Yep, you guessed it, poor Brooke happened to be one of the victims! It was funny and very unexpected! Shortly after the win, Brooke flew out to Japan to sing at a couple of different clubs in Tokyo. "Japan was a great experience, I can't wait to go back to perform" said Brooke. Currently, Brooke is working on her upcoming album, and is performing at various gigs in Hollywood, Hawaii, and Japan. "Being an Asian R&B female singer I have to prove myself, and I can't wait for the whole world to hear me".
