BrokenToiz:
Band Members: Annette Moore, Steve Stephens, Nyghe Siddiq, Kim Starms, Ed Roth, Donn Torres, Dave Goldstein, Yuko Tamura, Rick Taylor, Alex Budman
A bridge between the old and the new, between the funk and rock, BrokenToiz fuses rhythms and psychedelic sensibility into a neo- pop-soul-rock hybrid that draws diverse audiences. BrokenToiz’s sound brings back the 70’s and 80’s funk while rekindling the fire within you for Sly and the Family Stone, Tower of Power and Parliament Funkadelic with a hint of Jimi Hendrix and a dollop of LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes and Das Efx.
This is the beginning of something new, forcing you to reflect on the past in order to appreciate the subtitle messages embedded in their stylistic, melodic and beat-laden renditions, affectionately known as music. BrokenToiz’s music is soothing to the soul as water is to a plant or as a warm, gentle breeze crosses your face on cool spring day.
Enjoy the journey and we’ll look forward to meeting each of you on the road and to sharing A Little More Love…Peace!

Why this name?
Well I wanted to show the difference of being a kid with nothing to worry about to having everything coming at you as you grow and mature but not forgetting that wonder of it all when you were really young and BrokenToiz seem to fit the bill.
Do you play live?
We just played the Viper Room in Hollywood and had a great crowd. And yes I want to take the group to Europe so I'm working on that now.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It levels the playing field and lets the people make the choice of what they will like and buy. Personally I love it because you don't have to depend on someone who knows nothing about music telling you you don't sound like Britney.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if it's beneficial to getting the music out there. There are still things they can do that are harder for unsigned acts to do. But it's changing as we speak.
Band History:
SELF-DESCRIBED “NEO-SOUL” BAND BRINGS EVERYTHING TO THE TABLE
BrokenToiz infuses multiple genres to create their own sound
Los Angeles, CA, June 20, 2008 – Most bands are usually born out of someone’s desire to play music their way and connect with a fan base. Every musician was influenced or inspired by someone – whether it was a grandmother who encouraged them to play or a legendary performer who touched their soul with a note, lyric or style. When a new band is introduced, the first question is usually, “What kind of music do they play?” In the case of BrokenToiz, a Los Angeles-based group, the answer would be, “D - all of the above.”
This versatile, ten-member group describes themselves as “neo-soul,” and in an effort to paint a larger picture, also includes funk and R&B. However, it doesn’t end there. These artists can also deliver solid hip-hop, jazz and rock. “BrokenToiz is the band I have been waiting to be a part of my whole life,” says founder and drummer, Steve Stephens, who has played with some heavyweights in the industry, including Janet Jackson, George Duke and Cheryl Lynn. “We started this project to bridge the gap between the old and the new, the funk and the rock, because we played them all and enjoyed them all.”
Joining Stephens is Kim Starms (Guitar, vocals), Donn Torres (Bass guitar, vocals), Nyghe Siddiq (Rap, vocals), Yuko Tamura (Keyboards, vocals), Annette Moore (Vocals), David Goldstein (Keyboards), Ed Roth (Keyboards), Richard Taylor (Bass, vocals) and Alex Budman (Saxophone).
BrokenToiz’s self-titled CD was released on June 1st and is available on the iTunes, Napster and Rhapsody websites.

Your influences?
When you hear what we do it's pretty much everything all mashed up into one thing. We can take Sly Stone or Stevie Wonder and mash it into the rock thing or even classical overtones because we have been and done all these types of music and it comes out as BrokenToiz.
Favorite spot?
I love Hong Kong as far as cities goes and would love to go back soon. It's burnin'.
Equipment used:
Axis Percussion, Korg, Yamaha, Fender, Roland, Kurzweil,
Anything else...?
We have players in the band that have played with everyone from Janet Jackson to Glenn Hughes and that's what I mean when I say we have influences all over the map. I absolutely love that and that is what makes BrokenToiz unique!
