Wow! It's hard to write about the Brazos Brothers without also talking about the Brazos River.
The river begins in New Mexico. Then, in West Texas, we have the Double Mountain Fork, Running Water Fork and, what gave that Brazos coffee its great taste, the Salt Fork. Too bad we can't drink the water anymore.
Just as the waters of the river are varied, so are the Brazos Brothers songs. Since we have played music together and individually in various other settings for longer than I care to admit, folk, rock, country and a little jazz are all in there.
In 1986, Jack Stephenson, Rocky Randall and Garry Spradlin formed SRS Music with the intent of writing music strictly for sale to other artists. By the time I paddled alongside, they had two or three minnow buckets full of tunes. With the addition of my bass guitar, and the pedal steel in the studio, the performance side of the music began to emerge.
After hearing some of our "rough cuts", another brother from way back upstream invited us to his
recording studio, Rockhouse Studio, to record a few songs and see how they sounded under better conditions. We recorded two CD's but only released the last one, "Harmony Road".
Since the release of the “Harmony Road” CD, drummer Steve Hardin has come aboard to keep the time, add more punch to the bottom and hopefully, keep bringing the whiskey. We invite you also to come aboard and go with us as we drift past the sandbars, willow trees and sunsets of life's river, that flows always toward the deeper pool of water.

Why this name?
It was during the first recording sessions that (our now producer) Earl Musick started calling us the Brazos Brothers, and it just seemed a natural name for a bunch of guys that grew up on - and in - and still live near the Brazos River.
Do you play live?
We are currently the house band at "Billy's Bar and Bistro". It's great, we get a lot of rehersal time.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet and streaming media have allowed bands and individual players to expose themselves to a multitude of potential loyal listeners who otherwise would have remained unaffected by our madness. Finally the major labels have serious competition from us "Little Guys", no pun intended.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe.
Your influences?
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, Stanley Clarke, The Moody Blues, Duke Ellington, Charlie Byrd, Buddy Emmons,
Favorite spot?
A sandbar on any river around 3AM after all the human sounds are gone. Next to that, it's a smokey beer joint while playing in a cookin' band.
Equipment used:
Fender and Epiphone guitars, Fender fretted and fretless basses; Fender amps; Roland electronic drums; Shure Beta 58 mics; Carvin mixer, EFX and speakers; JBL DriverackPA; Crown amps.
Anything else...?
Some of the songs on the "Harmony Road" CD were sung by Holley Warren, whom we're sad to say, had to leave the band due to health reasons.
