Band/artist history
Blister Rust is a NYC Aggressive Rock band formed in 1994. The band has released two albums on their own label (Thundermug). The debut album was released in 1997 (“Birth Is Painful”) and the other in 1998 (“Who’s Gonna Scratch Your Itch?!!”). Both albums were on rotation on about 500 college stations and charted many times in CMJ. Blister Rust pounds the human animal to think and prods the listener to reflect. A “Black Sabbath like” set-up. This is a band that sparks the bowl and ignites the soul. Their sound is as if Soundgarden met Motorhead at a bar during a self-improvement seminar. The results produce a pounding unadulterated solid guitar rock band. Through it all, Blister Rust punches your ears with an attitude that is not afraid to laugh. Drink Bong Water. Have you performed in front of an audience?
Sure do. All over the NYC/Long Island Area. Places like Coney Island High (the loves us there), CBGB's, Webster Hall, Spiral, Mr. Berry's, SUNY Stony Brook and Big Mike Sessler's Bar and Thrill.
Your musical influences
The Blister Rust sound kinda gets explained in some of their press quotes, for example - ""The album contained a smorgasbord of musical selections (with styles ranging in influences from Rage Against The Machine, AC/DC, Rush and of course The Beatles) catering a bit to everyone's distinctive tastes." - L.I. Entertainment 12/98. The band has many influences from Jane's Addiction to Shirley Temple to John Williams. Otto (the guitarist) loves Van Halen, Joe S., Jimmy Page, Herb (not Peaches) and other magic lead players. Dug (bassist) loves the hair band talent of the 1980's - Billy Sheenan, Kip Winger, the guy with the stand up bass from the Stray Cats, Cliff Williams and that clown Faster Pussycat. Terry (drummer/bong hit kid) started playing after he heard Kneel Peart and Paul Cook. Terry is into The Stooges, Rage, Soundgarden, Faith No More and weird stuff like Myles Davis. Rx started listening to Metallica and Accept in 1984 destroying the sanctity of his American Band!! stand household. When the band started Rx was heavily into Tool, Nirvana, Drown and Rancid. He is currently enjoying the cool changes in hardcore bands like Sick Of It All, Hatebreed, System of a Down and the Backstreet Boys. Current stupidity entails getting lit and listening to Hank Williams and Public Enemy with a sprinkle of some black power thrash bands and white power gangsta rap groups. The jackassery never seems to stop. The band has yet to sit through and listen to an "Electronica" CD without destroying it. Drink Bong Water.
What equipment do you use?
Unusual things like guitars, mics, drums, cymbals, condoms, harps and teeth grinding equipment
