music is the weapon of the future... time to lock & load
Why this name?
its a wild story but basically 1 of my crazy friends said that while he was in the nuthouse the other screwballs called him: blackdaylight.
i always liked the name & i wanted to release music under a darker more complex name than iceman or T.C. Shabazz (my old hip hop monikers)

Do you play live?
yeah, Chicago is as dope as it is dirty
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
the internet gives those that can afford it access to lots of music & culture that we wouldn't even know existed otherwise...but i gotta admit free mp3 sites are full of terrible music. if anything the mainstreaming of mp3s & the net have created lots of false hope in talentless hacky artists because it allows them to pedal their mediocre art to a huge market of idiots willing to accept it as good simply because its new...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
hell yeah, there's no "standard" contract so i would negotiate ownership of all masters, lock down residuals, maintain complete creative control, & have a phat health plan! & besides that i'm not gonna pretend that i don't recognize how important all of the exposure a major like J records could give my music because of their deep pockets & high promotional budgets. i mean honestly i could continue making music & never release any more of it, but i feel like i'm obligated to share my gift with as many people as possible...right now i can't even afford to press 100 thousand copies of bedroom music when its done (let alone promote & tour to support it) so i must admit that if a major were to offer me an attractive production & distribution deal, or some other type of in-house songwriter/producer deal i'd be all over it.
Band History:
i grew up in chicago, but i always thought that i'm actually from jupiter...don't get me wrong the city is dope & i love earth but it seems like everyone down here is asleep. there's so much dirt goin' on that we all know about, but we're all complicit with our overwhelming complacency, & generally apathetic attitudes.
Your influences?
Portishead, dead prez, radiohead, the Neptunes, the Skatalites, D'angelo, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, soul, jazz, classic rock, & trip hop...
i make a neo-trip hop soul jazz, type of hybrid music...essentially,
Prefuse 73 + the Neptunes = blackdaylight
