I'm actually my own band :) I sequence music to accompany myself, usually with me playing an acoustic instrument and singing for the final mix.
Why this name?
We live in an old stone farmhouse that sits in the middle of a beanfield.
Do you play live?
I only play live - I've never played dead :)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
There are a lot of folks who are making excellent music, but who, for various reasons, do not play the music industry game. The internet is an excellent distribution medium.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'll probably never have to worry about that option.
Your influences?
I enjoy a wide variety of music, and particularly enjoy acoustic music. That said, you can have a lot of fun with electronics, too.
Favorite spot?
Outside, anywhere with a great view, fresh breeze, and sunshine.
Equipment used:
I use Garritan Personal Orchestra for some of the sequenced instrument sounds. I also use a number of soundfonts for those, too. For my acoustic work, I use Taylor and Lowden guitars. I also have some homemade instruments that I use: hammered dulcimer, bowed psaltery, and bodhran. Pennywhistles are Howard (low D), Walton, Generation, and Susato. For my basses, I use a Rogue 5-Pro (fretted) which I built a new body for (mahogany and flamed purpleheart - yummy!) and a fretless Rogue viola which I added an LR Baggs Element pickup to, making a really versatile bass stable with just two instruments.
Anything else...?
I use Notation Composer (www.notation.com) for putting together my music. I can use it to sequence the parts I can't play, and to work up the printed parts for those I do play acoustically. It totally rocks! You can check out the features of Composer at http://www.notation.com/NotationComposer.htm. Use it to check out the sheet music for some of my songs on the Notation Users Community Forum at http://www.notation.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi. You can also use it to view and play the sheet music for any midi file. You can use it to create your own music files like I've done. Check it out at http://www.notation.com/Download.htm for a free 30 day trial download.
