Pond Monkeys is a young, talented, and very experienced band out of Southeast Kansas. Formed nearly 5 years ago, the group consists of four individuals from Fort Scott, KS. With their energetic live shows and melodic punk-rock music, Pond Monkeys have gained an impressive fanbase.
Why this name?
For better or worse, the band name was chose after Austin saw a special on the history channel... Pond Monkeys is an actual name for those Canadian Logger-guys that used to balance on logs floating down a river.
Do you play live?
Pond Monkeys are always performing around Southeast Kansas.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is a wonderful thing for independent bands such as ourselves: Easy exposure to a large amount of people. The next level in the music business is where the problems begin. Major label acts are the ones getting screwed over by file-sharing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the opportunity presented itself, we'd have to look at that. Pond Monkeys would only sign a binding contract if it was the best thing to do for the band's growth.
Band History:
It's fairly simple. Austin, Derek, and Alex began jamming together several years ago. After performances in church and at talent shows, they gradually began to sound good. Daniel joined in 2001 bringing a fuller, edgier sound to the band, and the rest is history. Or will be history. Or something.
Your influences?
The melodic-alternative genre is what we fall into. Green Day, Nirvana, the Pixies, Incubus, Dishwalla, and Collective Soul are all influences. Influences come from everywhere.
Favorite spot?
Alex likes his room. The band likes Parsons.
Equipment used:
lots of carvin and crate amps, mapex drums, and peavey everything
Anything else...?
It's difficult to be taken seriously because of our young age, but for those that take a chance and come to our live shows, they'll see that we're dedicated and experienced rockers.
