"Cradle of Liberty" is now (January, 2008) being considered for recognition as the state song of Virginia (see HB1418). If you like it, contact a Virginia Senator or Delegate and let him or her know you want them to vote for it. You can find their names and email addresses here: http://leg1.state.va.us/081/mbr/MBR.HTM.
You can check the status of the bill at that site, too. The first step is to get past the House Rules Committee which meets Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. That committee will decide whether to send it to the full House before the end of January, 2008.
Last year that committee banished all state song contenders to Senator Hanger's long-defunct state song subcommittee, where they died of neglect. This year will be better only if you speak up. House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith told me personally that he would seriously consider a song if it gathers sufficient public support (whatever that is?). He's on the House Rules Committee. He has an inbox.
