Acoustic Folk

Great Big Yam is a collective and individual effort to preserve traditional American music and create songs within that tradition. From the traveling blues to the banjo breakdown to the jigs and reels native to Ireland to the African roots to folk protest songs.
Band/artist history
There's just too much. To be concise, it is all about a drive from Atlanta to Greenville in the summer.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Live music should be returned to the rural roots of it. Harvest, shucking, picnics and the like. When these come up, someone involved with GBY will be there.
Your musical influences
Fiddlers of all stripes from Mississippi to Hungary, Fred McDowell, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Roscoe Holcomb, Dock Boggs, Charlie Poole, Skip James, Howlin' Wolf, Barbecue Bob, John Snipes, Dink Roberts, Joe and Odell Thompson, Neal "Big Daddy" Pattman, Otis Taylor, R.L. Burnside, Corey Harris, Jerry Ricks, Cootie Stark, Samuel Turner Stevens, Charlie Patton, Gus Cannon, The Mississippi Sheiks, Asik Veysel, Ali Farka Toure and James "Super Chikan" Johnson would be a good place to start.
What equipment do you use?
A Yamaha nylon string, a Mayfair Plectrum banjo, Deering 5-string banjos, Johnson resonator, two mandolins with no identifiable brand names (though one was in "Bound for Glory" I'm sure of it!), a baglama from Yilmaz saz evi, a Conn 12 string, a Gibson, a Fender and a couple of fiddles one German one Chinese with American rehab by Steve Mason.
Anything else?
Poetry will return to the oral tradition within this century. It is a matter of evolution.
