A short instrumental synthesizer and guitar composition composed and performed by me, JOHN, JOHN DAVID THOMAS (John Thomas), in 1973 in the Electronic Music Studio at Ball State University, on campus in Muncie, Indiana
About the song
I was spending a quiet day in the Electrnoic Music Studio on campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 1973, as a college student working on my undergraduate degree in MUSIC (Theory and Composition), using the large MEGA synth called the ARP 2500 studio synthesizer, a huge 6-foot wide MEGA monster synth, that cost $ 14,000 ! I was thinking romantically of the beautiful and sexy girls on campus, as I strummed my solid body electric guitar that I ran into an Eventide Clockworks Instant Phases, with the "envelope follower" set to the "on" position, as it created a phase-shifting SWIRLING motion sonically, as I strummed my guitar for the accompaniement (the "rhythm guitar" track of mine), and I then recorded three separate voices and melodic lines on top of the guitar track, using the TEAC 4-track pro recorder with the large 10-1/2 inch reels of tape...I spent HOURS programming the ARP 2500 with all kinds of experimentation on my part with the voices of the synth...I remember for the high "flute/recorder" sound, I used separate frequency osciallators for the pitch vibrato and the "filter tremelo", and I liked to use the "notch filter" quite a bit! I detuned the osciallators to give a "fatter" sound, more realistic and interesting sound.
