About the song
We had several of our musician friends pass away in a period of about 3 months at the end of 2008 (Jim Sinclair, Ron Ludwig, Sammy Gorman) and the loss was pretty tough on Bryan.
He started tooling around on the piano after going to a memorial and came up with a modified '3 Dog Night' hook. It was pretty slow and somber, if I remember correctly - but it was enough for him to start getting some lyrical ideas.
Lyrics
I'm wishing on a Sunday afternoon for a simple way to take away the pain
As I memorize the lines and all the words that I find to describe my dreams fading away
And I'll never know another way to share my thoughts today but oh God I'll try
And while I live and I breathe, and I work and I slave and I hope and I pray for no more tears to cry

So baby, just remember - you'll never fade away
Daddy daddy daddy, it's just another heavy price to pay

If only I could simplify
If only I could run away
If only I could justify
How I live today

I was sitting should've been standing on the corner of the river that was busy like a city street
When the memories in my head came flooding into my brain like the ocean washing over my feet
I respectfully submitted all the crazy little details that I thought were so important to me
But then the water was rising, the tide started turning and then I was swept out to sea

So baby, just remember - you'll never fade away
Daddy daddy daddy, it's just another heavy price to pay

If only I could simplify
If only I could run away
If only I could justify
How I live today

If only I could simplify
If only I could run away
If only I could justify
How I live today
