About the song
This was originally something of a drunken rant written late one night after listening to the radio and growing more and more frustrated with what was being played. Written in the style of a Johnny Cash song, the rant was titled "Dear Johnny Cash, Please Kill My Radio. Signed, A Fan". Included in the rant were stories about how my favorite radio station as a teenager was shut down and turned into a rap station when alternative music was no longer "marketable", and an odd moment where it literally seemed like every station I could possibly tune in played Outkast's "Hey Ya" at the exact same time. I also mention Tom Petty's album, The Last DJ, and how it was basically ignored by the media entirely. Years later, this rant would become the lyrical basis of the song, now titled "Dear Johnny Cash, Please Kill My Radio".
