About the song
"Movin On" initially was written with a smooth jazz flavor and after the breaking news of Rihanna's abusive relationship, I was inspired to move in a more serious direction, with a stronger message. The lyrics were appropriate, though slight adjustments were made and Paul Mcilwaine worked his magic, changing the melody, adding wonderful guitar grooves and as always, producing a fabulous sound. I insisted that Paul sing the male part and once again he has proven to be a man of many talents! Hopefully this song will "make a difference" by giving strength and encouragement to those involved in domestic violence.
Lyrics
Movin’ On
© Shelia Sikes February 2009

I’m movin’ on
Gotta be strong, yeah
The girls are going out
Can’t ya see…My man done set me free

How can this be?
How did this happen to me now
You know I’m strong, I fell in love
It all went wrong

Try as you might
If it ain’t right…Girl, Give up that fight
Gotta be strong…Gonna be gone…
It’s so wrong….Time for moving on…Moving on

(Musical Break)

Is this for real…What’s the deal?
Yeah… He’s checking’ me out
Walking to me…Could it be
He’s really free…Looking’ at me

Hello Ladies
That smile
May I sit for a while….
Yeah…Yeah Yeah

I’m…I’m movin’ on
Gotta be strong….
Yeah….Gonna be gone, now
If it ain’t right Girl…Give up the fight
Gotta be strong…Gonna be gone
Yeah it's time for
You know it’s time for…..Movin’ On
