This Is Your Life

This song is an atheist spiritual.
I am a solo musician. I mostly do the girl with guitar thing; acoustic blues is what I usually call it, but the terms acoustic folk or alternative country would do as well. I really only sound like a country artist because my voice has an Oklahoma/Ozarks kinda twang to it, and I do tend to sound a little countryish at times, but these days saying you're a country artist is almost the same thing as saying you're a republican right-wing evangelical southerner, which ain't me! I'm a cynical old hippie living in the country, defying most people's preconceived ideas about what I am.
Band/artist history
I played guitar when I was a teenager, and put it down after a few years when I got frustrated with it and felt like I wasn't learning anything new on it. Years later, I got in a brief relationship with a guitar player. After we broke up, I said to myself, if that guy can play guitar that well, so can I! And I got a new guitar and started playing again. (Thanks Rick, wherever you are...)
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I only play live every once in awhile, usually with no mic at the local Internet/coffee house (the Punatic Cyber Cafe). I've been known to play at farmer's markets and small-town festivals and wherever they won't run me off. I mostly prefer hanging at home making recordings. Kind of a hermit/musician...a weird combination.
Your musical influences
I'm influenced by Jorma Kaukonen, Jerry Garcia, Michelle Shocked, Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, and all those other cool old blues masters from back in the day.
What equipment do you use?
I've got an old Harmony Patrician, an archtop that I've put new tuners, new frets, and new inlay on. It's a sweet special guitar for an old Harmony, not an old beat up thing, but a really nice guitar; Harmony used it's good woods for the Patricians. I record on a Korg d1200 mk2. A little thing, but adequate. Lately I've been recording on a Zoom h4n...I like it. I've also got a banjo, a thumb piano, and various harmonicas, but they haven't made it into my recordings. Yet.
Anything else?
I'd play more harmonica if it didn't make my dogs howl...
