About the song
I’ve been a fan of my hometown baseball team, the Minnesota Twins, all of my life. It’s always tough when they play road games in California, due to the difference in time zones. The games don’t start until 9:00 my time, and usually end after midnight. I stayed up one night to watch an entire game. The next day at work, a co-worker asked why I was so bleary-eyed. I responded, “West Coast baseball, man.” As soon as I said it, I knew it would be a good song title.

A few years later, it was the perfect way to describe how my wife drives me crazy…but despite I all, I love her!

I like this song because I get to show two sides of my personality: the loving husband and the cynical jerk!

Lyrics
You can say what you want to me
I won’t put up a fight
It doesn’t matter if you’re wrong or if you’re right
It’s just your opinion; it’s only what you think
And opinions are like armpits
Everyone’s got a couple, and most of them stink

But don’t think silence implies consent
Or I believe what you say
It’s only to shut you up, yeah--you see that’s just my way
But there’s someone who figured me out
Quite some time ago
And every day, I have to say
She gets away with murder and so much more

Well I never met a woman like her before
And I never dreamed that I might
She fills my thoughts in the light of day and through the night
She keeps me up later than west coast baseball
And steals all my covers as well
And I say that’s fine

I was willing to live a life
Alone with an empty heart
My only ambition was to stick around long enough
To be a mean old fart
Then out of left field she took me by surprise
Now ten years on, the past is gone
And the future is all blue skies

Well I never met a woman like her before
And I never dreamed that I might
She fills my thoughts in the light of day and through the night
She keeps me up later than west coast baseball
And steals all my covers as well
And I say that’s fine

Life has a way of sneaking up on you
When you’re looking the other way
And I never thought I’d feel the way I feel today
I never thought I would
Didn’t think I could

I never met a woman like her before
And I never dreamed that I might
She fills my thoughts in the light of day and through the night
She keeps me up later than west coast baseball
And steals all my covers as well
And I say that’s fine
That’s fine
That’s fine
That’s fine
Yeah, that’s fine
