About the song
Commissioned by the choreographer and dancer Michele Durtnall for a dance work of the same name, this 30 minute large-scale piece explores themes of conflict between different faiths, murder and loss set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic future. Reflecting the influence of flamenco on the choreographer's style, the music fuses rhythms and melodies of the Seguiriyas and Martinetes of traditional Spanish music with Islamic calls to prayer and the composer's own syntax to create a unique sonic experience - a kaleidoscopic collision of cultures and music of the past, present and future. Call / Reverse Charge was first performed by Michele Durtnall and Company at Jackson's Lane Theatre in London.
