About the song
Yesterday I got a call.
A man I respect had passed away. I had to sit down. It is a tremendous loss for our District, even our Council.
I've known this man for years. I've called him at the last minute to set up an Eagle Scout BoardOfReview(BOR) for a boy, and he was willing to drop whatever he was doing to come sit for the BOR.
He challenged each scout to be a leader in his community, in his nation. To be worthy of the high calling of Eagle Scout.
I'm saddened by the loss, and often my emotions are expressed in song.
Last night I couldn't sleep until I had struggled out this song about him. It truly expresses my opinion.

Lyrics
The Eagle Man
(c)2007 by Christopher M Solaas
Got a call today...
A great man had passed away...
He was ancient and scarred
Except for his heart...
It was young.
Well, they called him 'The Eagle Man'
Every eagle knew his name
They would all come to rest...
And some built their nests...
On his arms...
Chorus:
Like a mighty white oak tree
In the forest of this life
Giving his time So each one could find
His wings and take flight
And the greatest joy he found
Was to watch those eagles fly
No wonder this one Had a heart that was young
Since he flew with the eagles
As they took to the sky.
What a hole we leave in this life
When we move on to the next...
Those left behind
Need God's help to find
The strength to go on...
We must pick up the torch
We must carry on the work
So another may find
His wings and take flight
And be free...
Chorus:
