About the song
I don't think my pastor has any idea that he's come up with the verbal 'nuggets' for a lot of my songs. This one is no exception. He was talking about his trip to Vegas one Sunday and how most of the people there put their faith (and consequently money) on the chance to win it big. However, it's well known that the casino must make more money than it pays out or it will go out of business. So where do you put your money where you can get the best return? With God of course! It's all about where your quarter goes.
Lyrics
It's the story / of a boy of a man
Who takes his own life into his hands
He feels the world owes him what he can grab
Take it and run just as fast as you can.
He's got to sow what he planted in the ground
And his "friends" up and turned it around
They took it all and now he's living downtown
In a box he dumpster dove and found
He had no warning where life was going
He couldn't steer it where he wanted to go
No instructions to make deductions
Maybe he should have left it with someone else
Instead of rolling the bones...
Big city / where the lights don't die
Always on like the 4th of July
Should you hold them? Or watch the wheel go
Round and round and round and round and
He let's it ride; all prayers aside
It's not a game anymore, now he's hooked to the core
(He don't care but)
You've gotta know, it all about where
Your quarter goes.
You put it in and you let it go.
You're gonna reap what you're gonna sow.
(Ahhh....)
The big city / with the towers so tall
Babel ain't got nothing on us now.
Making movies. It's just show biz
But you put it where your heart is
One day you're Vogue, but next you're cold
And Hollywood just gets on with the show
Don't read the papers. But maybe later
You can Dance with the Stars on a one night show.
(It's not fair but)
You've gotta know, it all about where
Your quarter goes.
You put it in and you let it go.
You're gonna reap what you're gonna sow.
Tells you more than you want to know.
Own a thousand homes but they can just burn down
Blow them on yourself but you can't stick around
Dig them in the ground but they will just turn brown
it all about where
Your quarter goes.
You put it in and you let it go.
You're gonna reap what you're gonna sow.
Tells you more than you want to know.
Give a prayer and you watch it grow.
Give a penny to gain the gold.
That's how the story goes.
Who takes his own life into his hands
He feels the world owes him what he can grab
Take it and run just as fast as you can.
He's got to sow what he planted in the ground
