About the song
The story behind this song:
In 2002, I was fooling around w/ my pedal board - mixing and matching different things. Anyway, I selected a Danelectro Daddy O (distortion), a Boss Flanger and a Boss Delay pedal , then hit that G5 chord (that you hear at the beginning). I held that note for a few seconds.... then hit the Eb chord (just like the intro on song now), and that became the immediate inspiration for the entire song.... I remember it so distinctly because all the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stood on end when I did it. I was like, "Hey what's going on?!" Since that time, I always associate goose bumps, chills and hair standing on end (during the creative process) as God's affirmation that I'm on the right track.
The lyrics came quickly (I thought, "What makes me really sad?") and the answer came in the lyrics nearly immediately (specifically "blown opportunities to help hurting people"). I thought I was off to the races with this idea, but the song sat on my desk "mocking" me for 6 years. It's funny how that happens some times.
