Lyrics
Terraplane Blue

I was conceived in a Terraplane.
If daddy can be believed.
First ride off the showroom floor.
In nineteen thirty seven.
He thought he had died.
And gone to heaven.
Until Momma gave him the news.
And he had to pay his dues.
No priest would officiate.
At a wedding ceremony.
Said to fornicate was a sin.
And that made a devil child of me.
So they converted to Methodist.
And legally tied the knot.
Dignifying what one quick ride.
In a Terraplane begot.
Instrumental
I burst out wailing.
And still do today.
Had a fiery mop of red hair.
Which now has turned grey.
I was cursed with a short fuse.
And a never ending thirst.
Momma knew to get some peace.
She had to nurse me first.
And the best way to get me to sleep.
Was to get out the Terraplane.
Give me a mouthful of Momma
And drive round the block again.
So in between my hair and thirst.
And love for that Terraplane.
Terraplane Blue became
My given name.
