About the song
When we're sinking deep in the mire and God is reaching out to rescue us, why do we fight him off? Is it just our nature to not surrender? Sometimes when people are drowning, out of panic they fight with their rescuers. I've done that to God at different points in my life, thinking I knew how to solve the problem and all the while making things worse for myself. I hate seeing friends go through the same thing. Thats what this song is about. Surrender to the Rescuer.

Mandy Booth - background vocals
Lyrics
Its easy to pretend and
Convince yourself you're not sinking
The facts speak for themselves
Even when you're by yourself
On the deep end up to your neck
You're feet they start slippin
The water it starts creeping
Over your mouth
There's no time to shout out

But He sees you when no one sees you
When you're too deep to shout
He's reaching out
But you keep fighting the hands
That were pierced for your behalf
And now you're slippin away
Under the water into the grave

Beauty only deep as your skin
Corrupted by the nature of sin
Can't hide the leper's sores
But you can reach for the cure
And that's Jesus
He's reaching for you
Your will it starts breaking
The water it starts overtaking you
There's only one to hold on to

And He sees you when no one sees you
When you're too deep to shout
He's reaching out
But you keep fighting the hands
That were pierced for your behalf
And now you're slippin away
Under the water into the grave

He lifted me, He lifted me
From the drowning waters
He lifted me
And He'll lift you like He did me
He'll pull you through the pain
And the misery

He lifted me, He lifted me
From the drowning waters
He lifted me
And He'll lift you like He did me
It was love that lifted me

Our will our way
Our guilt our shame
His will His way
Our past done away
