Vanilla Sky
Complete contrast to Weightless, this is a piano-drven ballad - although still a little angsty, can't be too sweet with these things;-)

About the song
This was actually suggested by the build-up to Live8 & the subsequent march to Edinburgh. (I don't usually tell people that, I let them figure it out for themselves)
It's pretty much the only piano you'll hear on the album, 'cept for a tiny bit on Darkness, the rest is guitars, guitars, guitars!

Lyrics
Caught the early train to London
Watch the river sliding by
Head for the park with all the others
A million on each side
Passed the way down to the front line
Waiting for the sky to glow
And yet the journey's just beginning
A long, long way to go
Running mile & mile on empty
Hitch as far as I could go
I'm still running, still running
Long, long way to go
I made my way across the border
Persuade the suits that they could try
And all the others there still hoping
They didn't have to die
Thousands waiting in the barren
Hills that won't support you now
They're still waiting
Long long way to go
Landed home in time for breakfast
The irony didn't pass me by
With all the thousands there still waiting
Under vanilla sky
Watch the river sliding by
Head for the park with all the others
A million on each side
Passed the way down to the front line
Waiting for the sky to glow
And yet the journey's just beginning
A long, long way to go
Running mile & mile on empty
Hitch as far as I could go
I'm still running, still running
Long, long way to go
I made my way across the border
Persuade the suits that they could try
And all the others there still hoping
They didn't have to die
Thousands waiting in the barren
Hills that won't support you now
They're still waiting
Long long way to go
Landed home in time for breakfast
The irony didn't pass me by
With all the thousands there still waiting
Under vanilla sky
