About the song
It is 1932---be careful what you wish for, and be prepared to pay the cost. Here came one who could end the drought, but he may have been in league with the devil. He arrived in a wagon like an old hearse, drawn by black stallions. As a price for having brought the rain, he asked for no money, only souls. When payment was refused, he unleashed nature in a way no man had seen, for he is The Storm Seller.
Lyrics
THE STORM SELLER
Now the storm sellers, they was just plain evil.
Any man that can conjure up rain at his command,
has to be in league with the dark forces of the world (the devil)
I tell ya, it was uh.
uh… the summer of 32
And you know… it was dry
Corn was wilting in the fields
There was a flash of lightening and there he was
Standing dressed in black
He was kinda old and evil
And he said uh…. I can bring you folks some rain
But it gonna cost you (the devil)
Well….we didn’t know it at the time, but what…
What it was gonna be, was not money, but human souls…
Yea… well. he brought the rain alright
But…. the storms wiped out all our spreads…
Forty souls was a-taken on that day and…
Men just disappeared uh
Uh I don’t know what to say about it,
Still kinda affected from that
I had a limb fall on my head… and they had to cut my leg off
To get me out from underneath the thing
If I ever catch up with this man, I uh... I will try to kill him.
Uh… I think he IS the Devil, in my own estimation.
There have been
Stories circulating around
That he just moved around the world and did this.
We’ll never know…..we’ll never know but…
Dressed in black
And he was kinda soaked with rain or sweat.
Had a hearse-like thing drawn by black stallions
And a sign on ….
A sign on the side of it sayin…
It said uh… the Storm Seller.
