About the song
This song came about from a dear friend who had written a song titled "Too Ashamed To Pray". With his permission I took the song and re-wrote it and came up with the title "Too Proud To Listen, Too Ashamed To Pray. But the former writer and myself related so much to the words of this song simply because there was a time in our lives where these words were so applicable.

Mike Cantrell and Myself decided there was a message in this song that everyone needed to hear. Not so much for preaching or pointing a finger at the listeners but, to have the listener realize (like we did) our failures came about simply because we left God out of our decisions in life. God is loving and forgiving. He's always there for us. All we need to do is call on Him for the answers.
Lyrics
Got my rags tied up and thrown across my shoulder.
Everything I owned rapped up in this tiny little holder.
Off on a journey to God knows where.
Is it too late to turn back, too late to care.
If only I prayed, wouldn't be this way today.

Chorus.
Being ashamed as I look back now at what's brought me here today.
So many things I've done dear Lord they just got in my way.
The trials and regrets O Lord I'll carry them to my grave.
I was Too Proud To Listen, Too Ashamed to Pray.

Lord, this journey we walk together rough it's been.
But it made me come to realize Lord, you ARE my one true friend.
Nailed to the cross at Calvary, suffered and died to set me free, If only I prayed wouldn't be this way today.

The lust of the world got a hold of me.
You opened my eyes that I might see.
A way to escape this misery.
Forgetting these words that keep taunting me.

Being ashamed as I look back now at what's brought me here today.
So many things I've done dear Lord they just got in my way.
The trials and regrets O Lord I'll carry them to my grave.
I was Too Proud To Listen, Too Ashamed To Pray.

Talking.
Today, I bow my head and listen Lord and I thank YOU for teaching ME to pray.

End.
