I remembered telling my father that songs should never be forced with a style, that no matter the lyrics or the tune, it always has its purpose and that God did not put the song or lyrics into the author’s head without a purpose. That every word used has its unique meaning.
This song came to me during a worship service in 2005 when we were singing a song “You Are Holy” by Hillsong. The chorus “I’ll sing your praises forever, deeper in love with you” struck me as such a powerful song that a new tune came into my mind, similar but different in such a way that my first thoughts to God was “Lord here in your midst, I can be nothing but speechless in awe of you”. Immediately, the words started flowing in even as I sang during the progression of this song.
It amazed me as to how it is so true that the scriptures “he put a new song in my mouth”, (Psalm 40:3) could come to such an extent where singing a common tune with others could bear such fruit. Words that I knew were closest to what described how awed I was in his presence just flashed across my mind as I scribbled them down.
What still touches my heart is the response of how every intricate detail of the song touches a specific person and it warms me to think that even a single and unique word that God has placed in this song could touch a person so deeply.
