About the song
Another of the very first batch of songs I wrote when I was 15. I recorded a version when I got my first guitar a few months later, and then it kind of disappeared off the radar, until I revived it last year.

I guess, at the time, I thought "Body In the Basement" was a good, edgy, punky kind of title for a song, pretty much inspired by an episode of The Young Ones. In this case, the title definitely came first.
Lyrics
There's a body in the basement
I saw it yesterday
It's gaze so far away
I wonder what it's doing there
And I know just exactly how it feels
That body so betrayed

I wonder who did the deed?
Who knifed him in the back
Who put him in the sack
Who pushed him down the stairs
A fate against which there is no appeal
Hidden in the black

There's a body in the basement
Some sort of portent
But not an accident
Something deliberate
Did it belong to the good side or the bad?
Was it an outsider?
One thing for sure, it was an innocent man

There's a body in the basement
It's been there for too long
It speaks of hidden wrongs
Done in the darkness there
And I wish there was some way to reveal
The one who did this wrong
