Lyrics
Preachin’ To The Choir
Recorded by Kevin Wicker-Progress Nashville
I went to church last Sunday
Just like I always do
Took a seat in my usual spot
In the very back of the pews
Well the preacher started preachin’
He waved his hands up in the air
He said today I’ve got a message
And pointed strait at the choir
He said -- You may notice last Sunday
Ol brother Joe was missing
When I stopped by to check up on him
I found out he went fishing
And Sister Ellie Mae’s been seen
Down at the Dew Drop Inn
And ol’ Billy Ray here, I hear say
Likes to drop in now and again
Chorus
Yeah today I’m preachin’ to the choir
Before they wind up in the fire
On that awful judgment day around the bend
The Good Lord loves a sinner
But we got the real hum dingers
Can I get a Praise the Lord and a big Amen!
Sweet Sister Sue
Has a tempermental side
Cuz when her temper gets control of her mental
It’s time to run and hide
And Brother Sam’s got 5 new stores
He ‘s really on top of his game
But the way ol’ Sam does business
Even the Good Lord gets shortchanged.
I saw a notice in the paper
That the choir director’s broke
’Seems he spent every cent he had
Down on one of the gambling boats
Now I know a few of you might think
I’m doin’ this for spite
But if you gonna praise the Lord
You need to live it with your life
Repeat chorus
Bridge
Being in the choir won’t buy your ticket
When the glory train comes by
You gotta live for Jesus
To reach that mansion in the sky
Repeat chorus
