A feeling of unworthiness and a longing to get closer to God. The original words in the first verse were very closely modeled on Jacob's experience, "I have struggled all night. It was a long and awful fight. But I know now Who it is I've been resisting. In my pain, in my grief, I now beg You for relief. Oh, my Lord, I need You now, I need Your blessing." But, I modified so that it have a more general application to times other than stressful ones.
