About the song
Having lost 75 pounds from my cancer treatment I not only was physically not the same man I used to be but I was also SPiritually not the same. I had layed down and actually buried my talent for some 12 years or so. I knew the Lord was telling me it was time to let go of the man I used to be and He simply graced me with this song.
Lyrics
The Man I Used To Be

I’m still rough around some edges
And I still hurt sometimes in places
But I’m healin’ - and feelin’ stronger

I don’t sound the way I used to
And I don’t look the way I used to
Yea I’m healin’ - and feelin’ stronger

I’ve had to deal with my own dyin’
And watch my friends and family cryin’
But I’m ready now to say goodbye un-to
The Man I Used To Be

I don’t talk the way I used to
Now I listen like I’m supposed to
There’s a better man - Growin’ up inside me

A man who knows where he is goin’
Plantin’ seeds that are worth sowin’
The lord is healin’ - and makin’ stronger

And everyday the old man’s dyin
Everyday the new man’s risin’
He’s ready now to say goodbye un-to
The Man I Used To Be

And this song is just to thank God
I’m not the man I used to be
