About the song
I wanted to write a tribute to Phil and decided to incorporate song titles and his lyrics to form the lyric to "Ode" and to tell a story of his life...
Lyrics
Ode to Phil Lynott
He set out for the West to hunt the buffalo
But his Mama Nature told him to let them go
And he sang a song for Eire the rocker was on his way
Promised he would return to the hit country one day
Nightlife it got him he had his showdown
Eric waved bye-bye and Scott and Brian were found
She knows it isn’t money that makes him blue
Cus there’s a girl out there who is still in love with you
Chorus:
I’m just waiting for the one
He’s got a bad reputation as an Irish son
I’m just waiting for that famous pose
Don’t believe a word from the black rose
The boy burst out of jail was back in town again
Picked up Rosalie a cowgirl in vain
The wild one lost his lonely girl to Romeo they say
But with an emerald in his fist he made the warrior pay
The sun came down with the thunder and lightning
Back on the streets Gary Moore had his fling
Johnny and Rocky were back on the borderline
While solo in Soho Phil drank whisky not wine
I’m just waiting for the one
He’s got a bad reputation as an Irish son
I’m just waiting for that famous pose
Don’t believe a word from the black rose
He sang songs for love and for liberty
But his soul was lost somewhere
When the pressure finally blew
Took his spirit somewhere new
Then I lie not we lost something rare
Then I lie not we lost something rare
Chorus out…
