About the song
Inspired by the character, Larsa, of the video game, 'Final Fantasy XII.' Briefly, Larsa is a twelve-year-old character in the game and, as all pre-teens do, he's growing up. His story in the game, above all, is a coming-of-age story. I wrote this song in his POV, and he's engaged in internal dialogue with his much older brother, from whom he has always sought guidance. However, he's now learning to challenge the ideas of his older brother and think for himself.
Lyrics
I have learned a thing, a thing or two, today
One thing I learned is that a word can fly
Brother, why did you not tell me sooner?
And all this time I was writing them down on sheets of paper,
binding them to the page
Brother, brother, oh, brother of mine
The world is so much bigger, so much bigger than I
Unlike you, I have no map; oh, what if I get lost?
"I'm just a child", like you said
And with the blink of an eye, the world changes
into something I have never seen,
something that's always been,
but to my eyes, unseen--
Is this what you mean when you say, "One day, I'll grow and leave all that I know"?
Is this what you meant, brother? Oh, brother, brother of mine?
If so, I need not know; brother, you're wrong this time
It's birds that fly
One thing I learned is that a word can fly
Brother, why did you not tell me sooner?
And all this time I was writing them down on sheets of paper,
binding them to the page
Brother, brother, oh, brother of mine
The world is so much bigger, so much bigger than I
Unlike you, I have no map; oh, what if I get lost?
"I'm just a child", like you said
And with the blink of an eye, the world changes
into something I have never seen,
something that's always been,
but to my eyes, unseen--
Is this what you mean when you say, "One day, I'll grow and leave all that I know"?
Is this what you meant, brother? Oh, brother, brother of mine?
If so, I need not know; brother, you're wrong this time
It's birds that fly
