Lyrics
MISSISSIPPI SPUD LAUREL VARNER-2006

Well I loaded up my Harmony guitar
and took a drive in my old car
headed south and wound up
around Tupelo
the old car started get'in hot
so I pulled her over on the spot
ended up stopping
right next to a tater field

There was a house nearby
and a man walked out
he said ya hav'in trouble
I said there aint no doubt
she's runn'in hot
could I borrow some water
He said sure thing pardner
that aint no bother

We topped off the radiator
and cooled her down
the man said I see
your from out of town
he wanted to know why
I was in this neck of the woods
I said to do a little pick'in
cause I think I'm pretty good
Listen to this..
(lead)

He said that aint bad
for a midwest picker
but there's a guy up the road
that's better and quicker
He said grab your guitar
and jump in my car bud
I'm gonna take ya to meet
Mississippi Spud

Spud was ready and wait'in
when we pulled in the drive
had his tele plugged in
and a glow in his eyes
he said glad to meet ya
where ya from bud
folks round here
call me Mississippi Spud

then he started to play

I realized by
the way he was play'in
there wasn't much sense
in me even stay'in
so I poped the top
on a can of bud
I'd been outplayed
by Mississippi Spud

they say he lives not far
from a tater farm
he was born with a telecaster
under his arm
he's got alot of music
flow'in in his blood
everyone calls him
Tupelo Mississippi Spud
