Lyrics
Buffalo
V1
In the long ago year of eighteen O four
On the banks of Lake Erie and the Niagara shore
Joe Ellicott came and he surveyed the land
Which till now had been in the Holland Land Company's hands
On that spot rose a city which many would say
Was a center of trade way back in the day
When the shipping of grain and the forging of steel
Was the first driving force to turn Buffalo's wheel
Chorus
Yo ho to the great Buffalo
On the Shores of Lake Eire
Did a great city grow
Only to find, through the passage of time
Even Steel cannot keep
Those great fact'ries aglow
V2
The great Erie Canal came in Eighteen Twenty-five
once called Clinton's Big Ditch it helped Buffalo thrive
Along it's small towpath mules and oxen did pull
The great barges that helped keep the warehouses full
At the Lake Erie port and along railway lines
The tall grain silos, they were a sign of the times
The new skyline was growing in leaps and in bounds
Many fortunes were made, many destinies found
Chorus
Bridge
Now the times they have changed and the city has grown
And no longer is Buffalo so nearly well know
But it's still on the edge of the Lake Erie Shore
Where there's welcoming smiles and a wide open door
Chorus
