About the song
Originally demo-ed in 1988, with my then-girlfriend doing the spoken-word lines. Re-recorded in 1991, with my then-girlfriend (later wife, now ex-wife) Pam filling that role. Financial news stolen from BBC Radio 4.
Lyrics
Get tight.
You're always ready to stand up and fight
You see the whole world in black and white.
More speed.
You always take more than you really need.
Is this the way to succeed?
You got no problems, you can call on the carphone
For information on the state of the Dow Jones.
You got a wife, you got a mistress in Leytonstone.
Don't tell
Straight to hell
Doing well.
No trust.
You got to satisfy your money lust
And you think that you've got it sussed.
Less sleep.
You want to be the one to top the heap.
Don't expect me to stand and weep.
Where will you go when someone takes away all the laws?
What will you do when we are knocking on every door?
How will you cope when you can no longer screw the poor?
Nowhere
Out there
Seems fair.
We're gonna get you in the end.
You're always ready to stand up and fight
You see the whole world in black and white.
More speed.
You always take more than you really need.
Is this the way to succeed?
You got no problems, you can call on the carphone
