About the song
"The lyrics to this song were prompted by the phrase 'sell the moon,' which my friend Rob used in a poem. It got crazier and crazier as the ideas kept coming." - J.G.H.
Lyrics
I went outside last night
Awakened by the sound of fighting
I heard some men deciding where to put their advertising
And as the sale went on
The billboard spots were almost gone
And as they sold the last away, I heard them say
Chorus:
We'll sell the moon
Let's sell the moon
We'll make it look just like the Pepsi sign
What's more, it's now a cellphone tower
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
It's a shame this wasn't done before
The sky is full of perfect billboards
Before the night was done
One company bought the sun, but it's fine
They always said they had the lowest prices under it
They made a new design
So in the morning when it shines
The entire human race is greeted by a smiley face
(Chorus)
The Big Dipper now holds frosted flakes
And it's obvious who bought the Milky Way
But with each passing of the Pepsi sign
It seems we're running out of room
But they're always room for Jell-o there someday
(Chorus)
