Walking down a dusty country road

thinkin' about the world and the way it's been

wondering about the days of long ago

was there ever justice among men?

A rich man's stting in an easy chair

smiling as he counts his bags of gold

he took that gold and turned it into lead

they dropped it on some poor folks heads

he turned that gold into poison waste

made it the scourge of the human race.

I guess we got a long way to go

before we understand the golden rule

it ain't about some keeping all the gold

while the rest gotta work like mules.


Somebody's talkin on the radio

about how the world is supposed to end

but the world ended a long time ago

for broken hearts that just won't mend

for mothers, fathers, daughters and sons

all sacrificed to the lord of the gun.

I guess we got a long ways to go

before we ever find some peace on earth

or the only peace that we'll ever know

is when we're in the ground all covered with dirt.

help fix this mess that we're into
