About the song
I had been writing a lot with stan LaGrange and my mother, Nancy Cassidy. When stan played me this song, I KNEW I had to cut it.
Lyrics
“One More Stone”
© Stan LaGrange
Tonight her heart is back in high school
And half a mile off river road
It was her favorite place to pass the time
Wish for love with every skipping stone
She met the man she’d marry her 3rd year of college
Felt her wishes coming true
But her dreams would turn to nightmares
When his kindness changed to cruel
Chorus
And the night wind sends a shiver
driving as fast as she can go
Tonight she’s going back to the river
She has one more stone to throw
Verse 2
The ring had never left her finger
Thru days of better and years of worse
Now its lying cold and worthless
Way down in the bottom of her purse
She can’t sort out how it all happened
It just came about so slow
Yesterday she was 21 and married
Today she’s 41 alone
Chorus
And the night wind sends a shiver
driving as fast as she can go
Tonight she’s going back to the river
She has one more stone to throw
She pulls her car off on the dirt road
Makes her way down to the shore
Hope and heartache in her right hand
She rares back and lets it go…..
