About the song
STORY BEHIND
----------------------------------------------------
Santorini is a Greek isle full of music. It is a land of inspiration, art is in the air. I visited Santorini in the summer of 2000. During my stay, and from the very first moment, this melody kept bouncing in my mind. The song relates the tale of a fisherman's son in the land of Pansylvathia, by the Crystazul seashore, where five sea-fairies meet every moon and dance over the sea, leaving a luminescent trail. One purple night, the boy decides to stay hidden behind the rocks to watch the magic dance. The boy dares to play a rudimentary flute following the fairies¹ melody (piano), and is discovered, thus having to face five upset magical entities. In this moment, the sea itself (cello) calls for harmony, showing that both melodies can be played together. The episode ends in a fabulous light and sound dance, which remains in the boy's mind for the rest of his life.

THE PRODUCTION
----------------------------------------------------
"Footprints On The Sea" (FOTS) is a track which melody was hitting and bouncing again and again in my head when I visited Santorini island (Greece), a magic place unique in the world. Although I thought initially to include it in a recopilatory of piano pieces and bundle them all in a new album "Blue Sight Of Aegean Sea", I decided to develop a new story based on the tales about faeries I`ve been told when I was a kid.

The second melody of FOTS came after many visits to the forest, in which I was inspired for the medieval-like melody. I started playing with many different instruments til I got the cello sound, a great one which is factory sound with orchestal ROM block of Kurzweil in the K2500 model. I modeled a bit the response of performance by bringing some extra-control in the expression part.

This was really emotion-uprising and I decided to express even more with a second part with flutes. In the end, the final arrange was the opposite, flutes first, flying high, and then cello with its romantic lament in the very basement of emotions (a serious, deep sound which recalls ancient voices). I learnt from Kandinsky not to invert "natural" position of "colors" in the canvas (this theory of colours relationship in the canvas was transferred to some extent by Schomberg in the music realm, the author I`ve followed in my studies of harmony)

I used two components present in other tracks, one is the background arpeggio done with a Zawinul-like synth sound, heavily filtered; the other one is ethereal, mystic backward chorus, representing faeries magic chants. I included many other voices which span from one side to the other, swinging accompassed with the overall rhythm. The result was really beautiul to my senses, so I recorded it all and spent some more days listening the outcome once and again, in all places and on every type of audio sets. I finally decided that this piece was good enough to my loyal, beloved Fans & Friends around the world, and released it. The whole process took 4 months.

(Sung sadly, but upbeat)

Beyond the ocean,
Past all the land of green,
'neath the star eyed heavens,
wandering always, lost, unseen.
He sought for his love fair;
eyes were made of gemstones and,
sorrow was her hair.
Beckoned by her calling
The siren's cry he came.

Althrough the vallies
the silver voice called him.
He vowed under the God's eyes
to follow her every whim.
Devoted now his life,
under pale moonlit sky
he took her as his wife.
Vowed to her his love,
she watched with youthful eyes.

Chorus-
They left their footprints on the sea,
sailing with gold encrested wings.
They left their footprints on the sea,
or willingly the tide often sings,
they left their footprints on the sea.
With only company true love brings,
they left their footprints on the sea.
He let her lead him away.
They left their footprints on the sea.

Over the years,
No trace that they could find
told of his living,
Or if time was kind.
He was with his lover,
with the gem-inlaid eyes and,
skin a dream's color.
Enchanted by her heartache,
and mystery drawn in.

Forever more now,
with the shimmering stars lie,
just a man, his lover,
and their heartbeats in the sky.
Many nights of calling,
the fated two had joined and,
protected them great strife,
gone from the trace of time,
A husband, and his wife.

Chorus-
They left their footprints on the sea,
sailing with gold encrested wings.
They left their foodprints on the sea,
or willingly the tide often sings,
they left their footprints on the sea.
With only company that true love brings,
they left their footprints on the sea.
He let her lead him away.
They left their footprings on the sea.
On the sea,
On the sea,
On the sea,
