Lyrics
The stockings were hung by the fireplace,
The presents arranged with great care,
The lights on the tree were all dazzling and bright,
And the soft scent of pine filled the air.
The family was ready for Christmas,
They’d taken a month to prepare
Yet something was missing and nothing felt right
For the Spirit of Christ wasn’t there.

They’d thought filling their wants and desires,
Would bring them all comfort and joy,
So they met every need that they thought that they had,
Plus a little bit more to enjoy.
But something inside remained empty,
A void that no present could fill,
A place that would only be touched by a trip,
From manger to Calvary’s Hill.

O Christmas is more than just presents
More than Santa and tinsel on trees
It’s more than a manger and shepherds and stars,
And wise men and Caesar’s decrees.
It’s the day when God reached out and touched us
With the gift that’s the greatest of all.
‘Twas the gift of redemption he gave us that night
Through the baby in Bethlehem’s stall.

They read from the Bible that evening
The Story they read every year
A story of grace and God’s plan to forgive
Though it’s truth to them never seemed clear.
But for reasons beyond comprehension
This time it spoke straight to their hearts,
And the Spirit with all of His wisdom and power,
Created in them a new start

The family is kneeling in worship,
They’ve given their lives in His Name,
He’s filled them with peace, and He’s filled them with love,
And their lives are no longer the same.
The things that they thought were important,
Turned out to be nothing at all.
For the greatest of gifts that was given that night,
Was the baby in Bethlehem’s stall.

For Christmas is more than just presents
More than Santa and tinsel on trees
It’s more than a manger and shepherds and stars,
And wise men and Caesar’s decrees.
It’s the day when God reached out and touched us
With the gift that’s the greatest of all.
‘Twas the gift of redemption he gave us that night
Through the baby in Bethlehem’s stall.

The things that we think are important,
Turn out to be nothing at all.
For the greatest of gifts to be given tonight,
Is the baby in Bethlehem’s stall.
