American Road (Acoustic)
An alternate version of the title track from the album - acoustic guitars, bass and hand percussion give the performance a more intimate singer/songwriter approach.

About the song
In Morris Plains, NJ I have a customer located on American Road. There is a gigantic, impressive flag flying at the intersection of American Road. One day, driving home from that customer, I thought of 'the road' as an overall metaphor for the American experience as people I've had conversations with (and I) know it.
Lyrics
The people slam their brakes to see
Other people's misery
Packaged up as reality
I'd like to heal the pain I see
But I've got responsibilities
For bigger people's prosperity
Packaged up as industry
But who's looking out for me?
The left side's misdirected
And the right side's out of touch
The green light only seems to shine
On those who have too much
The highway that I travel
Ain't exactly paved in gold
I love and hate this bumpy ride that we call
American Road
We stop and go
American Road
We stop and go
We rallied close together once
But that was then, that's yesterday
A land of sisters and brothers, babe
Just people in my way
To hiding in my comfort zone
Eating more than my fair share
But I'm looking for a reason now
To find the strength to care
My right side's misdirected
And my left side's out of touch
The yellow light plays on my fear
That I'll never have enough
The highway that I travel
Ain't exactly paved in gold
I love and hate this bumpy ride that we call
American Road
We stop and go
American Road
We stop and go
I'm sometimes misdirected
Then I'm in and out of touch
The red light's got me singled out
When I think of it too much
The highway we all travel
Has to be repaved with soul
To get us through this rocky ride that we call
American Road
We stop and go
American Road
Come on, let's roll
Other people's misery
Packaged up as reality
I'd like to heal the pain I see
But I've got responsibilities
For bigger people's prosperity
Packaged up as industry
But who's looking out for me?
The left side's misdirected
And the right side's out of touch
The green light only seems to shine
On those who have too much
The highway that I travel
Ain't exactly paved in gold
I love and hate this bumpy ride that we call
American Road
We stop and go
American Road
We stop and go
We rallied close together once
But that was then, that's yesterday
A land of sisters and brothers, babe
Just people in my way
To hiding in my comfort zone
Eating more than my fair share
But I'm looking for a reason now
To find the strength to care
My right side's misdirected
And my left side's out of touch
The yellow light plays on my fear
That I'll never have enough
The highway that I travel
Ain't exactly paved in gold
I love and hate this bumpy ride that we call
