A little bit of Son House-style slap & pop on the reso, with a Blind Willie Reynolds riff thrown in for good measure.

About the song
I wrote this the next morning I quit my then-job to concentrate on preparing the "Snakes and Devils" album. My cat was of great assistance in the process.
Lyrics
I got a fire in the fireplace
Got a cat beside the stove
I got a fire in the fireplace
Got a cat beside the stove
Big yellow eyes and long white whiskers
All satisfied and slightly bored

Got a roar in the stomach
Got an oven in the soul
Got a roar in the stomach
Got an oven in the soul
Well I feel just like that cat
And I ain’t never gonna go to work no more

I’m gonna get up in the morning
When the sun is shinin’ bright
I’m gonna get up in the morning
When the sun is shinin’ bright
I’m gonna lounge around all day
I’m gonna play around all night

I’m gonna make myself some coffee
And then I might just read a book
I’m gonna brew myself some coffee
And then I might just read a book
People walkin’ past my window
All I do is sit and look

I’m gonna learn my value
I’m gonna get all dignified
I’m gonna learn my value
I’m gonna get all dignified
If there’s a purpose to this life
It better run away and hide!

I’m gonna grow some whiskers
Man, I’m gonna wag my tail
I’m gonna grow some whiskers
Man, I’m gonna wag my tail
Walk softly in the night
Lean and mean and hard as nails

I got a fire in the fireplace
Got a cat beside the stove
I got a fire in the fireplace
Got a cat beside the stove
Well I feel just like that cat
And I ain’t gonna work no more
