About the song
Originally this was another "Sunday Songwriters Group" assignment at Guitar Noise. Johnny Cash had recently passed away and this ended up being a tribute to him. This is a live recording, mistakes and all, from a recent gig.
Lyrics
Man In Black Blues
-D. Hodge

Can't hear no train a-comin'
Aint' been no train through here in years
Can't hear no train a-comin'
Aint' been no train through here in years
Folks don't come around these parts no more
But the railroad track's still here

I used to hear him on the radio
Some Sunday mornings coming down
I used to sing with him on the radio
Some Sunday mornings coming down
Hey mister can you tell me
Tell me when the man comes 'round

They say you've got to learn your history
Appreciate where you come from
They tell me Dave you learn your history
Appreciate where you come from
I say there's a time for retrospectives
And a time to learn new songs

But they go on about the good old days
Living today in long ago
They just go on and on and on and on
Living today in long ago
Man I don't ever want my yesterdays
To be the only life I know

It comes down to love and God and murder
And a little music to see you through
It all comes down to love and God and murder
And a little music to see you through
Well Johnny I hardly knew you
And I've got these Man in Black blues

Can't hear no train a-comin'
Aint' been no train through here in years
Can't hear no train a-comin'
Aint' been no train through here in years
But I'm still waiting for that whistle
'Cause the railroad track's still here
