This is a torch song in the 'Wichita Lineman' style written for anyone who has been left behind whilst watching the person they idolise the most moving on to greater things. Shaunny, this ones for you. (You can preview the entire song in lo-fi.)

About the song
Heart & Soul (A Song for Shaun Wright-Phillips)

I wrote this song following the transfer of Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City Football club to Chelsea FC. As far as we can tell, the £21 million we got following Shaun's transfer effectively saved MCFC from near-bankruptcy and yet many people both inside and outside the club decided to blame Shaun for 'walking out'on us.

Accordingly, this song is written from the perspective of the fan who will not hear a bad word said about his(or her) hero. Ever felt like that about anyone?

Well I have.

Neil
Lyrics
Heart & Soul

They sold you out I know
But I still love you, heart and soul
You've got to go I know
It makes me sad

Their taking down your name
But I still love you just the same
And they're giving you the blame
It makes me mad

You’re leaving town
Its getting my down
I’m gonna miss you
A star that shines so far away

You’ve got to go I know
And I still love you, heart and soul
You’re chasing down your goal
And I should be glad

(instrumental)

You’re leaving town
Its getting me down
I’m gonna miss you
Your star now shines so far away

You've got to go I know
And I still love you, heart and soul
Should wave you down the road
But I'm just too sad
I'm just too sad
