About the song
i don't know what facinates me about war, it's not any glory, but perhaps the fact that my Grandad was in WW1 and my Dad in WW2 and as a young boy I was confinced I would end up in WW3. Well there's still time!
Lyrics
For 20 Million Years or more this hill has stayed the same
‘till here in 1899, won't be the same again
one thousand Men marched to the top to fight the will of one
into a hail of molten rain they fell there everyone
Empire calls you
Kitchener is asking after you
Barely 20 years have passed a new fixture and time
one million men on every side along the Western Line
Haig's whistle burst upon his lips, balloon is up let's kill the Fritz
over the top, your bayonet's fixed, fell like a pack of cards
Empire calls you
Kitchener is asking after you
And now they have found, Empire's fallen to the ground
and all your Mothers Son's fell in vain
whilst in a field somewhere in France, a sway of Poppies dance
and a sea of crosses stretch for evermore
A replay's called in 39, by 44 it's extra time
from East to West along the line the Bosh is on the run
now Monty calls to Eisenhower, Churchill to the Eastern power
take Hitler to the Bloody Tower the British Empire's done
Empire calls you
Kitchener is asking after you
Empire calls you
Kitchener is asking after you
‘till here in 1899, won't be the same again
one thousand Men marched to the top to fight the will of one
